Can't say enough how awesome this cafe is! Apart from the great coffee and service the food is amazing and far exceeds average joint, you SHOULD go :-)

The smashed avo with a latte before and after is the perfect way to start any Sunday!! The place is always full which in my books is a sign of a good cafe! The staff are attentive and friendly and the menu and coffees are top notch. Everytime I visit Melbourne I make a point of having breakfast there at least once! If you are lucky enough to snag a spot in the courtyard on a sunny morning you never want to leave!
Reviewed by: Quikmike | Date: 20th March 2010 via iPhone App | Report this reviewThe breakfast menu here is top notch. Banana bread to die for and porgies scrambled eggs with goats cheese take it to a new level. So happily the coffee is of the same high standard. You can't go wrong! (Unless you arrive peak time on weekends. Aim for before 10 to jag a chair or to get your takeaway in under ten minutes.)

Reviewed by: crawf | Date: 21st May 2009 | Report this reviewWhat a find Porgie was....great atmosphere, interesting decor and always busy. The food was amazing- small menu, but very particular and delicious! Coffee went down a treat- smooth, creamy, but a tad on the bitter side. Best cafe in the area though! Worth a visit!
Reviewed by: macka | Date: 21st May 2009 | Report this reviewOk... so my friend Erin told me for weeks to go to P&MJ. So finally i diverted from my staple few hawthorn cafe's and gave it a go.
To be honest i wasn't that impressed with the food. It tasted amazing, but my serve of scrambled eggs on the tiny piece of bread in hawthorn was not worth the high price.. not much on the plate unless you order the big breakfast.. a little over priced in my books.
lucky this isn't a food review site.. ok back to the coffee!
there coffee is really really good. started with a latte then moved onto a long mac.. all very tidy indeed. Staff know what they are doing and are super friendly. The coffee was nice and strong even on a regular latte order.. coffee worth every cent.
Thanks P&MJ's!
P&MJ is my absolute fav!! The coffee here is always consistent, the menu is out of this world and the staff are gorgeous. Once you've been there a few times they'll remember your name and your coffee. Great atmosphere - cute tables and decorations.
Reviewed by: MK | Date: 7th May 2009 | Report this reviewPorgie and Mr Jones has won the favour of most my friends, whether they live nearby or not. In fact, my sister likes it so much she suggested we take mum there for mother's day, and my cousin is having her 21st there.
I've been here a few times, and always been happy, without being overly impressed.
The service is pleasant, but nothing special.
The atmosphere is hard to describe. Perhaps modern Victorian (oxymoron?)?
The coffee is strong, slightly bitter and smooth. Good latte art accompanies it.
Nothing else nearby compares, so give it a visit.
This cute cafe is always bustling, having won the favour of the locals with it's combination of rustic funk, excellent coffee, and a great breakfast menu.
Wing chairs and old dining tables surround an open fireplace out back, while the communal table takes pride of place in the front room alongside shelves of delicious homemade bits and pieces, old chalkboards, and a counter full of fresh pastries and baguettes. The Linea runs pretty well flat out extracting coffee roasted by Allpress to an high standard.
Definitely a worthwhile visit for a weekend breakfast, or a lazy afternoon's coffee.
