I've not been to pitch 42 for a while, so this may be a little out of date (the previous reviewer mentioned that ownership had changed?)
Each coffee I've had there has been perfect. I love that even though it's a stall, you still get china cups. Staff have always been good fun, I tended to go when it was fairly quiet, and end up staying at the stall for a while chatting nonsense with whoever was there. That's always nice.
This is where, on an icy morning ages ago, I first realized that you can actually get an amazing cup of coffee in London as well.
The greatness with the coffee from Pitch 42 at Whitecross Street is that the foam is consistently perfect. Never have I had a cappuccino or espresso macchiato not being world class quality. But I guess that's what one can expect from award winning baristas. Never the less, this place is one of the joys of the City. Forget about the bonuses rewarded in the office blocks, it's all about the coffee!
Pitch 42 is well known and well loved and a really lively place.
The stall with no name, run by World Barista Champion 2009 Gwilym Davies and co-staffed by some amazing baristas is a great place to visit, hang out and talk coffee.
You're virtually guaranteed a great coffee and can also enjoy freshly baked pain au chocolates, pain au raisin and other pastry delights.
The market banter adds to the experience with a high level of love and interaction by the local community.
Pitch 42 is also the place to redeem your dis-loyalty card (and pick up a new one).
Gwilym and his team take ...
A rich creamy flatwhite with a great soft microfoam that seemed hardly to separate. First sip/mouthful had a strong robust flavour and then it settled down into a milder flavour gently coating the whole palatte with no holes or sharp edges. Very last mouthful was a little too milky in flavour, but probably just the coffee getting cold on an icy morning.
The pain au choc, the pain au raisin and the croissant armande all looked big, crunchy and tasty (just too sweet for my breakfast).
