Stepped out of my usual coffee routine to try something different and had been told pop into piccolo mechanico. Having visited were st foodstore years ago it was great to find the \" guy that draws ur face on the froth \" but all gimmicks aside the coffee is definately up there with the best!

Worth ditching eltham for the morning :) friendly atractive staff also and great music.

I'm really pleased to have found Mark again after he left Were St Montmorency. If you live in the area you need travel no further in search of excellent coffee, and if you have travelled far you'll be glad you did. The coffee won't disappoint! I too am a lover of Portuguese custard tarts, and here mine was served warm with creme!

Go Mark! We are fans from Monty Were Street Cafe days. We'll follow you wherever you go - esp when it's to diamond creek and we're moving there too! Lol!

For a cafe to be appealing it has to have that certain je ne sais quoi....and I think Mark is on the right track with this little establishment. It's very relaxing - he's a lovely personable barrista which means you'll put up with his odd hours to get a caffeine fix. The pièce de résistance will always be the portuguese tart - ooh la la! Rare as hens teeth in Melbourne - paired with his famous coffee irresistable!

We're so glad he has blessed the outer suburbs with his gift!

Hallelujah! Diamond Creek is no longer a gastronomic wasteland thanks to this little place! Previously getting a decent coffee meant a 15 minute drive to Eltham then, on Fathers Day 2009 - and not wanting to face the hoards sitting in awkward silence over breakfast - we headed out for *gasp* McDonalds. But wait! DH saw a little shop, with a little sign with a little spotlight and it was... open. Huzzah! FABULOUS caramel-y coffee, friendly service, scrummy cakes, cool tunes (the Smiths! Hello!) and comfy chairs. Even a dunny with handsoap & half decent TP!

The worst thing about this place is it's closed on Mondays and doesn't take credit cards *boo hiss*. Other than that: 10/10.

We needed a cafe in the area that just makes great coffee, and this is it!
I was recommended to try this cafe, and sure glad I did. I have been there many times, had all different types of coffee, and it is always consistently great.
Apart from the fun latte art (for which I believe the owner has won competitions in the past?) , and the great coffee, they also offer a small menu for lunch - some very nice focaccias, usually a salad, some great cakes, home made muffins and sometimes scones.
It has an enclosed outside area on the side of the cafe for those warmer days - perfect for cyclists, or dog walkers - and makes a nice change not sitting on the pavement outside, but feel part of the cafe.

So if you live in the north east - and you love really good coffee - I would recommend you try it as soon as possible - you will go back again and again!!

I confirm everything aramsay said below.

Great to see a dedicated coffee shop in Diamond Creek. I could tell after one lap of the street that this was the place to get a coffee, and the external cues were correct. Shocked by a face looking up at me from my latte art.

I might be moving there for work, and if so I guess I'll end up there everyday.

Closes at 3pm though!

Some of the best coffee around Melbourne’s suburbs can be found in this new little café in Diamond Creek. Piccolo Meccanico is run by a super friendly unpretentious owner who really does know how to make great coffee, not only that but he can pull some of the craziest latte art I have seen for a while. Whilst the art is all good and well it’s the taste teste that is all important and at Piccolo you won’t be let down. I sampled a Flat White in their Fair Trade East Timor which was rich and strong with a nice earthy cocoa finish to it. After this I had a Ristretto in their house blend which had a really smooth start and then kicked in with a citrus & honey aftertaste that left me buzzing. Both coffees milk or not were fantastic and I highly recommend a visit if you are anywhere in Melbourne’s outer north eastern suburbs.
