Strange little setup. Looks more like a residential living room than a cafe, I felt I was intruding into a private space. They work on a tipping system, not sure why. Coffee was quite sour, not surprising given my recent experience at their other cafe Loysel's Toy. I was served a coffee made from a 2 day old blend which did not have ample time to degas then, looks like I was given the same deal at Papa Palheta.
Papa Pahleta was introduced to me by my sister when i told her I was going to singapore for the weekend.
It was difficult to find but once I was there and tasted the coffee it was well worth the 30mins walk.
It is more a roaster than a cafe but the baristas were certainly polite and took my orders anyway. they were also very patient and helpful in explaining the intricacies of coffee roasting and brewing (am a newbe in coffee appreciation). The people that run this place is definitely very passionate about coffee.
The long black that i had was full bodied (cant remember whether it was si...
Worth the trek (in the rain, no less), and even chanced upon a lovely cluster of colonial houses that surround this cafe. It is easy to miss (my cabbie: "That's a cafe?") as the entrance is located in an alley behind Bukit Timah Road and there is no signage to be seen until you're practically sitting at one of the tables outside. I felt like I'd walked into someone's private terrace. The "tasting bar" is a parlor set apart from the counter where one orders the coffee (again the sensation like I'd intruded or walked into someone's home). Seating is communal, so don't be surprised to share a cou...

Barista took the time to sort out address issues with cabby on the phone. In coffee heaven before the first sip. No coffee menu - describe what you want! \"Aussie style flatties\" was understood. Arrived on a Sunday - closed for roasting on Mondays - hence not many bean choices left for take home. WiFi. Mostly Local crowd. Coffee a little weak for me but excellent in Singapore.

Everything about Papa Palheta speaks passion and independence. They do their own thing, locating themselves behind an obscure area of Bukit Timah and serve cap's and espresso's without charging for them. They meet their rent by selling the multiple blends and single origin beans to the public. Indoor seating is an eclectic bohemian post colonial cost living room. Small round cafe tables are available al fresco w...
