Merlo, What can I say about Merlo?
I was skeptical at first as I had tried Merlo at different cafe's and Merlo, just did not do it for me. Then I discover the roastery at Bowen Hills.
This Merlo roastery is located in a small industrial section in Bowen Hills and can be easily identified by the trademark blue and white colours. Alyce is always friendly (as is all the staff) and my order is consistant in taste and milk texture (good texturing).
Numerous blends are on offer, but the standard espresso blend is always in the grinder. Beans are always fresh and then is a number of mid to hig...
Situated in a big shed in what is becoming a busy short-cut street in amongst other industrial buildings, at first Merlo gives off a certain raw feel. With multiple counters, the busy workmen almost don't have to leave their vans to order an espresso from the outside front bar whilst those who want to browse the specialist machines and gorgeous coffee cups and accessories can venture inside to the giant kitchen table to enjoy their coffee. Merlo offers great service and free cups of coffee when you reuse their cans to buy more beans. They also have their own icecream which is infused with t...

A relaxed, polite young girl offer her help but the bulging credit card bill gets the better of me and i opt for what when arrives is a beautifully extracted full bodied "privet blend" short macchiato. This place works well the staff are well trained and the espresso is up there with the best I've tasted in the country.
There's just something about drinking straight from a torre.
This place was highly recommended to me. The coffee was amazing! The cafe is filled with coffee equipment for sale and you could spends a fair amount of time just looking (or chewing through the credit card!). As for atmosphere it isn't anything amazing, rather it is just simple with one large table in the middle.

All of the staff are excellent baristas, and serve up superb coffee consistently (it is a very busy spot). If you buy beans, you can reuse the can and get a dollar of the price, and it comes with a free coffee! Inside, there is a very large table you can sit at (whilst trying to resist the temptation to purchase one of the beautiful espresso machines for sale, including Giotto). Despite the busyness, it is very...
