Hidie holes are no longer the purview of 8 year olds: Lawson Grove is a rare sanctuary from the pomposity and bluster of Sth Yarra and Park St. This place is full to the brim weekends, I was lucky to frequent the cave during working hours. So much space, so much good food, a nice Gravity brew and a pistacchio macaron to die for.

Espresso based drinks are quite nice, some of the best in South Yarra, especially at a time when not much else was around.

What a cute little joint ;) Finally, a place taking advantage of seasonal produce in the South Yarra. Pine mushrooms with a perfect poached egg. Seriously good! Coffee left a lot to be desired, no skills on show behind the machine. Go here for the food, head somewhere else for coffee.

Half the fun of this café is finding it. It’s set in a tiny little lane in undoubtedly one of Melbourne’s best art deco areas. This beautiful & mysterious little café is set in the basement of one of the lanes deco buildings & was once the communal kitchen for the apartments above. This café takes its coffee seriously, using Gravity Coffees’ 6 Degrees Darker blend on a shiny red La Marzocco machine & Mazzer Grinder.

I had a flat white which was pleasantly smooth, sweet and just the right temperature, without a hint of bitterness. This was followed by scrambled eggs on toast that wa...
