Dilemma: do I am mi famila take the hit and have an al a carte extravaganza at Tarrawarra Museum (which I have done prior to bouts of gastronomic ecstasy), or does the clan shunt itself further up the Yarra Glen to the eponymous Innocent Bystander?
If the barren wallet and a rejection of claustrophobia beckon, then get ready to lose your Innocence fast.
IB, as it's none affectionately by those reductionist wankers, serves a pizza crust that would give Rudolf the horn. Hey, it's a barn, but the wine, food and coffee are of an excellent standard.
Now, unfortunately when 300 strong spring upon...
i was a little disappointed in their coffee. i've been here a few times (for the food) and always enjoyed it. good selection of wines, beer, cheese, fresh breads. but their coffee isn't the best. even tired their single origin beans and didn't think much of it. if in healesville and in need of a good coffee, best to go to the "genovese" cafe in the main strip (sorry, can't remember the name of the cafe).

We head here at least once a month and always take back some of their beans. The lattes are nutty, with chocolate tones and little bitterness, but a nice punch.
Phil Sexton has made millions out of beer, now he has invested in this enterprise and hasn't spared a cent. The staff are fantastic and always seem to really enjoy their work there, which is evident because everything is there to see from the bread being hand made to the coffee roa...
Let just say, don't go all the way to the Innocent Bystander for a cup of coffee, however if you go try the freshly baked breads and pastries. I don't think I have ever had a almond croissant as good as I did here.
The atmosphere is really nice, big and airy, however the service is somewhat lacking, everything runs a little slow.
Although I didn't eat here it looks like the wine and cheese is a big draw card. The Menu looks really good using lots of local produce.
Go for the food, but not the coffee
Boasting a winery/cellar door, bistro, coffee roasting, beer, artisan bakery, pizzeria and cheese room, I could be forgiven for getting overly excited about popping out to Healesville!
On the way out of Melbourne, I sampled some of the wine from the cellar door and was impressed by the layout, the service and the wine itself. The '07 Shiraz Viognier was a tasty drop.
On the way back to Melbourne, I stopped here again. This time for coffees and a pastry. The almond croissant was pretty amazing; even more so as I was able to watch the pastry chefs make croissants from scratch.
The coffe...
