The chaps at Highlander Coffee has been touted as the first mover of Singapore's 3rd wave specialty coffee evolution. But after visiting the cafe recently, I think they are seriously lacking behind many other specialty coffee joints' progress. The cafe still looks old-fashionably boring.
Coffee was decent for sure, and the latte was done textbook style. Can't find any fault in it. But coffee aside, i think the owners really have to think hard how to make the place a little more inviting. Because seriously, even a best cup of coffee will taste a tad bland in a lousy environment.
I find the coffee here always fairly good, nothing quite outstanding nor complex. I will describe it as very safe coffee, the kind of coffee that most Singaporeans will be familiar with. The latte I had some some strong flavours and no acidity at all.
The place is cold as usual. Not quite the cafes that you will like to linger and read a book. The food department was pathetic.
With a lot of other new specialty coffee shops opening nowadays, I can see that Highlander is slowly losing their edge. Coffee is a whole experience for me, and not just a drink, and I think Highlander simply can...
Had my usual skinny cappuccino. The cappuccino was average. Milk was stretched nicely by the barista but the coffee had a bitter aftertaste.

Tis is the place that i can always go to for a good cup of coffee. While the opening hours is not exactly working crowd friendly, i will make it there whenever i have the chance. One of the first few Singapore cafes that truly delivers a consistent good cup of coffee.
Enjoyed my first visit to this little cafe, great brews although the food didn't look too inviting. Espresso was rich and viscous with a great mouthfeel. Not loads of time to linger and have too many shots but enough time to meet one of the owners which is always cool when doing the rounds of my cafe discovery.
This cafe seems to be on the watchword of most coffee hunters here. While my last trip down was quite a number of years ago (I think it was sometime round 2006) and my main purpose had been to look for a breaky place rather than a coffee place. To date, my opinion still hasn't changed much. Food there is still so-so and the small cafe offers little sitting options. Along with the cramp space comes the lack of atmosphere. I feel simply squeezed out and had the feeling that I was not really invited to stay.
However, negative as my opening comments may sound, the coffee is still top-notch. I ...
