It's a small owner run cafe, coffee is generally great but it's the sort of place that you just go back to. It's small so pick your seat carefully or you won't have much space, and they get busy so just relax with a paper. Food is good too, toasted sandwiches and toast are my picks pistachio pesto on rye with a squeeze of lemon juice
So back to the coffee, 9 times out of 10 your coffee will be spot on but sometimes they seem to just rush it or something. But if you're like me you just order another knowing it will be one of those 9 times
Organic milk is used which adds an extra creamines...
We love the coffee at Dr Java, it has a disctinctive flavour and is consistently good. The food is also well priced and yummy.
However...they've recently put in new furniture and a sort of "surround" to the service area...the result is that this already tiny cafe now has zero comfortable places to sit, without having to move every 30 seconds to let someone in or out.
Boo! Now we have to go somewhere else for our Sat morning coffee and the papers, and stick to Dr J's for takeaways only. I've rated them low on atmosphere because of the new layout,,,but if you're the only one there the atmo...
Doctor Java is a pleasant looking cafe on the corner of Smith and Gertrude Streets. Enter the cafe and you're greeted by a small selected of organic roasts, a charming window bar made from a curved piece of wood and a few small tables.
The coffee here was remarkably well tasting, but not so pretty to look at. The froth on top of my latte resembled that of a cappuccino. The coffee itself was a little watery, but full bodied and strong. Overall, the latte was very drinkable.
The service was rather average, but the atmosphere was very relaxing.
