Café Urth is an insanely popular café in the heart of West Hollywood. I went here after reading some local reviews found on Google which were all very positive. This café has a very LA feel to it with heaps of outside seating, a monster breakfast menu & a decent selection of coffee drinks.
I ordered a latte first up to go with my mushroom omelette. There was only a choice of two beans “Strong” or “Sweet”, and when asked the origins was told they were both blends of various origins. So I asked for a double shot in there smallest cup size which was in reality bigger than any cup you could get back home in Australia. The milk was textured well enough and the taste was smooth and not bitter at all. I would have preferred even smaller cup sizes and less milk but this was not available. Overall was a pretty good latte.
Second up I ordered a “really short espresso” as I couldn’t see any options for ristretto on the menu. I went for the “Strong” blend this time & was presented a perfect shot in a little espresso cup. I was very excited to see how it tasted. After a quick photo (check the gallery) I picked up the cup… “YeeeeOuch!!” man that cup was hot!!! I tried as best I could to down the espresso (which wasn’t too hot) without the cup touching my lips but still managed to burn myself. The espresso itself was as good as any I have had, smooth, rich with strong caramel flavours bursting through & a lovely sweet aftertaste. I was so bummed that they didn’t have the care to check the cup temps before running a shot, to me this is just carelessness on the baristas part.
My omelette was really nice & I would definitely head back here when in Hollywood. I can’t wait to see more little specialty espresso bars pop up around Hollywood but for now Café Urth is a good option. I hear it’s also very popular with the celebrates if your into that sort of thing.
