Cafe grumpy is a wonderful little gem tucked away in a rather strange part of Chelsea. It was definitely worth walking around for about half an hour from my apartment to for a cup of their scrumptious flat white. Love that there's a no-laptop rule; means there's a conversational buzz as well as a caffeine buzz. I think they run courses in coffee-making too - worth checking out if you're an NYC resident!

It can get crowded at times, but that's not a bad thing. It's off a quiet street so it can just be a bit unassuming when you arrive to find no seating available.
One of my favorites in NY, with an even large location in Greenpoint, Brooklyn (without the no laptop rule!)
I went to check out Cafe Grumpy the other day whilst in New York. I heard amazing things about this cafe from other baristas in my travels. The day I went must have been a bad day for them as my coffee was good but not fantastic. Maybe my expectations were too high. Anyway its still definately worth while checking out if you are in New York.
