Sad to read all the harsh reviews. Sure there are boutique coffee shops in Melbourne that make a magnificent coffee, but I have always found coffee at Brunetti Carlton (other Brunetti outlets vary) consistently good. Add the cakes and the location and it still makes it one of my favourite haunts!
The price of having a reputation- you have to live up to it. Impressive looking on entry, but a crowded, noisy barn. Service at the bar with no eye contact. Maybe I didn't look beautiful enough. The espresso was pretty good, but hard to juggle when I couldn't find a seat.

The service is impersonal and occasionally hopeless. The coffee is still of a high standard but pricey. The cakes and biscuits, once renowned, have dropped a notch too - often still chilled when you get them. A very unrelaxing place to have a coffee. Give this empire a miss.
The long row of pastries, cakes & slices, barista's in black tie and cyclists lined up out front - if the look and feel of a cafe set the tone for coffee then this place should blow your socks off, but..... on my two attempts the cafe late has been tongue burningly hot and taste resembling something you might find out in a local country milk bar, a good try and better than instant when there's nothing else around. And prices are at the top end for coffee in Melbourne, must be paying for the subsidies on the logo'd cycling gear.

Super hot on the edges and cold in the middle and that is also after asking them to reheat it a second time. I am not going to ask a third time to have my hot food hot. Pathetic! Coffee was ok. Seriously this place is majorly overrated!!!!!!
