This was almost home, at least 4 trips there a week, got to know all the people running the place, i even worked one day doing dishes for fun! In Berlin the type of espresso they create suited me perfectly. I miss the coffee's and the people there.
Alright, here's the deal with Bonanza: They may have startet specialty coffee off in Germany (or at least in Berlin). Still they're quiet different from let's say Australia and seem to be highly influenced by American specialty roasters and of course German taste buds.
What does that mean? Mainly that they still roast dark. They do have fancy equipment in their shop. That alone doesn't guarantee great coffee though. Bonanza is always good for a decent coffee and sometimes it really is good. Unfortunately it is quiet inconsistent as well, depending on who is behind the machine. Their roast s...
Based on the Beanhunter reviews, we sought out this place, walking a long way from the U-Bahn station and passing lots of other cafes in the area. I'd like to say it was as good as the other reviews, but on our first pass it was closed (at about 6pm on a Sunday). The following day we went back and ordered two coffees, both disappointingly bitter, so we tried another from the next barista and it was just as bad. What a shame, because its a very cool little shop and was brimful with locals, though there's not much room inside on a busy day. It was also brewing day while we there.

A good place to start a coffee tour of Berlin, with Godshot and others a short walk.
My wife and I visited Bonanza after meeting one of the owners in London earlier this year. Several other peoples whose judgement I trust were also highly complimentary of this cafe.
Steeping up to the plate was Rowan, a barista from Canberra, serving a flawless Flat White.
The cafe was quiet when we arrived. The roaster was not going but the atmosphere was cosy and friendly. The whole bean coffee, roasted a few days earlier, was sat on the shelf begging to be purchased (and we obliged)
Adorning the bench was a Synesso and Mazer Grinders and a great selection of pastries.
