Finally a cafe that gets that skinny flat white doesnt mean thin and insipid; mine was strong and smooth, dark but not overpowering.

What the heck? Someone gave this institution a score of one??? As is often the case the aloofest places serve the best coffee. These people are serious and serious about their coffee. No smiles just damned good coffee. Damned good I tells ya. Despite the plethora of coffee shops near me in St Kilda, I venture down to East St Kilda to get the best coffee within a 5 km radius.

Unless you get there very very early... don't expect to get a seat. There take-away coffees are made superfast so you don't have to wait long. (Great food too!)

Batch Espresso is one of those long serving quiet achievers.

They've been in the game for around 10 years as far as I can recall, and they have been consistently serving balaclava with great food, high quality coffee, and that Kiwi-kitsch style for the whole time.

I had the pleasure of working round the corner from here for a few months in late 2010, and quickly came to love the place for it's no nonsense, humble approach to awesome coffee. They run a custom slayer, producing beautiful coffee, but don't make a big deal about it. The barista was surprised I even noticed.
