Ok cool place.
The café has a synesso with two grinders (compak). They have syphons (must be a growing thing in SA), drip filters and an Ice brewer on display.
We had a short black pulled through a little piston machine at the back. The body was mind blowing.
We’ve had great take away and dine in coffees. The take away are a little weaker? Compared to the dine in (must be the size of the cups). But flavours and strength really good.
We drop through very time we drive past, must visit
Nestled amongst the factory and seconds stores of Glen Osmond Road, on the fringe of the city, is Adelaide's newest addition to the specialty coffee scene. Highly anticipated by the Adelaide coffee community, Bar 9 finally opened its doors almost 2 weeks ago to give everyone a 'sneek peek' at what is on offer from South Australia's 2008 Barista Champion Ian Callahan. As an early guess, this coffee boutique is sure to be the number one place to get your coffee in Adelaide.
The setting is a beautiful character filled building with a 'bar'(who would have guessed) and 3 handcrafted intimate tables with chairs, as well as a long table suited to groups. A closed off fire place gives a warm and cosy feeling and the walls mainly painted blue are adorned with coffee painted signage and modern paintings.
Ian will be providing old and new brewing technologies including syphons, Vietnamese coffee, cold brew drip, French press, ceramic drip, and espresso from a Rancilio Z9 lever piston machine and Adelaide's first Synesso Cyncra(which is definitely the envy of any barista who lays eyes on the awesome machine). The Synesso is paired with a Mazzer Robur E which ensures correct dosage and limited wastage with every shot. The espresso menu has bar 9 ‘blak’ for espresso and bar 9 ‘wyte’ for milk based coffee with most coffee on sight to be supplied by Five Senses in WA.
Popular coffees like the Ethiopian Harrar and Sumatran Lington are making guest appearances, with other specialty coffees also sure to be on offer.
A small array of food accompaniments(nothing mass produced) will be added not long after Bar 9 formally opens. If you are interested in barista training or just wanting to know more about coffee, Ian will be more than happy to oblige.
So whether you are a hardcore coffee fanatic, or a person who likes to catch up with friends for a weekly coffee, Bar 9 is the place to go if you are serious about great coffee from passionate people.
Initially, payment will be made by cash; however, merchant facilities should be available in the not too distant future. Other products including beans will hopefully also be available in the future.
