Very happy to find this cafe in Edinburgh being a Melbourne coffee enjoyer - Artisan Roast is much more to my liking than the chain stores that abound in the UK. The opening hours on a Saturday are actually 9am as opposed to 10am as written here, which was lucky as we managed to have a great coffee before flying out of Edinburgh.

There is no official bar, but rather you just stand next to the machine and wait for your coffee. Beans are roasted on site and available for purchasing. There is only bar seating for about six people and a small room out the back (decorated in an arabian style) for about sixteen. My coffee had a good crema (quite creamy) and a great aftertaste (thanks to its lack of bittern...

Espresso: great texture, medium acid, dark cocoa, hints of fruit and caramel.
Flat white: creamy, heaps of coffee coming through the milk served in 5oz cups.
The butter: Bohemian atmosphere but a great mix of people. Super friendly service from knowledgeable staff. Eclectic design that is really laid-back and chill.
Result: this place rocks!
This place was absolutely packed!!! Managed to get a seat out the back in a really cosy little room. The decor was quite eclectic and quite a nice setting to be in. My macchiato was slightly tart (strangely), yet left a beautiful after-taste. Overall a pretty good coffee with a thick and rich and crema.

As there is no separation between barrista and customer it feels like you have walked into someone's kitchen or living room. And an inviting room it is. My flatwhite has always been good, but next time I'll try a long black as my buddy reckons it is a better way to taste the flavours of their roast.

Not only does Artisan Roast do the best espresso in Scotland but they are well capable of doing a decent flat white. Artisan Roast is exactly as the name suggests, they a...
