Not quite the same place it was in the glory days when Crue was the only serious place to get a good coffee. Now your spoilt for choice around South Yarra and Prahran. When Danny is on the tools he still pulls one of the best coffees around. Food is always consistent and well priced. I'll miss this... Read more

I like these guys' casual but serious approach to coffee.
The space is comfortable and relaxed, as are the staff, despite their coffee making abilities being displayed live on screens above the counter.

My coffee wasn't particularly exciting. The coffee it's self is a little... Read more

Not quite sure what all the fuss is about! A few 10.0 ratings? Not for this place.

CRUE is has lovely people, a nice atmosphere, and good coffee, but it aint 10/10. Not when you compare it with other similarly rated cafes.

The LCD screens at the front showing close ups... Read more

This cafe has amazing coffee with extremely knowledgeable baristas. The coffee was amazing, it was rich and creamy. When you are sitting up stairs, you can hardly hear the noise from Toorak Rd which is a major plus!

Was very impressed with my coffee and the service that accompanied it. Great seating areas and surprisingly quiet considering its location!

Loved this place, with the morning papers out and screens above Barista's head showing technique, from the dose to the texture. The guys were friendly and the PnG was smooth rich and perfectly extracted. I didn't only know this by taste but from watching it pour on the screens. Could have been made... Read more

    Why?

That was my question upon leaving. This coffee hut oozes 'cool' to the point where I wondered if perhaps there should be a roller coaster styled sign out front which stipulates that 'you must be THIS hip to enter the store'.

The reality is that whoever is behind the... Read more

These guys take their coffee very seriously. The cameras showing the dosing, pouring and serving. Love the brown paper roll menus. And yeah the coffee was great be back for more

I ordered an espresso but received an under extracted ristretto with no crema and bitter. My partner ordered a flat white that came in a 220ml cup but would have been better in a 70ml cup. Disappointing.

Dropped in this morning, thought I would explore this unknown sanctuary.
walked in to find the very interesting use of cameras to display the technique of the Barista. I made sure I watched intensly to make sure my shot of Papua New Guinea was pouring to my satisfaction. And it surely was!... Read more

This place came rated well and was close so we checked it out.

I got a cappuccino and the froth on top was flawless. It was actually perfect. The coffee beneath wasn't good though. I don't know what it was about it, but it just didn't go down well. Unfortunate.

Owner and barista, Leon knows his stuff when it comes to coffee. Another South Yarra coffee spot doing great stuff. Do yourself a favour and go check Crue out soon.

Live just down the road from this place, unfortunatley only get to drink their coffee on the weekend as I work in the city. Honestly, this is the best coffee in Melbourne and I have searched far and wide. One of the most important factors is the consistency and they are consistently 9-10/10.Read more

So happy that we finally have some big boys in South Yarra, about time. Beautiful range of single & mixed origins, the Timor blend in particular is très magnifique! Looking forward to trying their coffee tasting paddle one Sunday morning. See you guys soon!

I went into Crue this morning and needed a fix of espresso and the guys there did not disappoint. I started with a Papua New Guinea single origin that as the Barista explained will hit you like a Chuck Norris round house to the head. It was awesome! Punchy with no bitter aftertaste. I then had a... Read more

After Leon left the cafe some months back I and my associates tried other cafes in South Yarra only to come back to Crue. While only drinking ristreto's a Cafe gets found out pretty quickly and Crue are as good as I remember it. Padre coffee is no longer served but there is nothing to fault here.... Read more

Well what to say about Crue....I have been to many of the good speciality coffee cafes in Melbourne,St Ali,Seven Seeds etc,and i must say that Crue is up there with best of them.I started off with a espresso shot from the single origin Indian / Yelnoorkhan...and the flavor of chocolate, honey was... *sigh*
I don't know what crack this guys smoking (saying its slipped) - but if there was a top 5 ristretto in Melbourne - CRUE would easily place, even at half speed. Cafe's like Deadman Espresso, Seven Seeds, Proud Marys, and Brother Budan are in an entirely different league. There's a... Read more

I have terrible news - CRUE has plummetted from the highest peaks of coffee stardom, and is now at best a 6/10. When they first opened, being a local I was excited at the prospect of a laidback cafe with the staff and the beans to make it great. Months ago, my high expectations were met. Then I... Read more
