Lovely little cafe. If it were closer to where I live I would be there often.
1 Cappuccino
Perhaps it was just a bad day, but this little cafe did not live up to standards of the ratings on Beanhunter.
My food was so close to being delicious, but the lettuce hadn't been rinsed properly and was full of grit.
Service was friendly, but food took forever to... Read more
Great coffee, service was attentive and the menu simple. Worth a visit if you're in the area.
Nice coffee, very nice food, pleasant service. Limited seating, cute cat-in-residence and 5 Senses coffee through Synesso kit. Nice place for brekky.
Great cafe. Coffee was creamy, flavoursome and minimal bitterness. Food was amazing and atmosphere relaxing.
Really enjoyed my Saturday afternoon at bell jar. A cafe that does chai well is a good one in my eyes! Bell jar is one of those. Lovely setting, cute fit out and friendly staff. Definitely going a second time.
Decent short black. Nice soy lattes. They have single origins. Great food. Pretty slow service. Grungey typical inner north decor.
This is a great cafe. Out of the way, but not hidden.
The house is Five Senses, pulled through a Synesso - wonderfully viscous espresso. The milk to ProCal, which textures beautifully. The milk coffee is certainly the standout, with the black single origins leaving something to be... Read more
Brilliant soy latte
I went here based on my sister's recommendation and I can confidently say that this is little known cafe has exceeded my expectations. Tucked away on the Clifton Hill end of Smith St between queens and alexander parades, this place will leave you wanting more.
The atmosphere is very... Read more
If it wasn't for spotting someone crossing the road with a take-away I wouldn't have noticed The Bell Jar.
Has great potential for a really funky joint, perhaps only limited by its very small inside area. But critically the coffee does't feel as if it's the star of the show despite... Read more

Staff are friendly enough, though inefficient (I had to ask to order three times from two different staff). Service for food really is terrible - waited an hour for breakfast which was done well but nothing amazing (and they were not even near capacity). A polite comment about the slow service will... hidden gem! found in the AGFG cafe guide and the bell jar definitely deserves a few cups! so many great choices on the menu - beautiful ingredients! not ridiculously priced either. WIN! coffee was very memorable. will be back and have sent my friends!
Kind of hard to spot nestled in amongst nothing up the top end of Smith St beyond officeworks across from the massive fem-mural. Sat outside on the footpath, didn't even check inside so can't really comment on atmosphere. Thankfully it's a part of smith St with not much foot traffic on weekends.... Read more
Three delicious flat whites and 2 good cooked brekkies (even though it did take an age for them to hit our table!)
With the twisted and torturous overtures of Plath's poetry, you would expect this little cafe to let you down some way, or make you a little bit sad, but it's quite the opposite. Situated in the steely industrial end of Smith St... it feels abandoned and strewn in a filmic landscape but the sun... Read more
Went here on the weekend. The place was plain dirty. Coffees took WAY too long to be served. Drinks didn't taste great either, so we didn't stay for lunch. Shame because we were here a few weekends back and it was great.
1 Flat White, 1 Soy Latte
I went to this cafe with a friend after she had raved about it. It definitely didn't disappoint.
The cafe looks great. It's got front seating, a big communal table and even a little garden out back. Great atmosphere.
My cappuccino was great. The froth was near perfect... Read more
