Popped in here yesterday.. Still producing high quality coffee.. My mac was sweet with citrus notes up front with a nice lingering aftertaste..

Cant go wrong at this place. So many coffee options, and today was perfect weather for the nitro brew. Such a refreshing coffee, that's really impressed me.
Staff are so welcoming, its no wonder people like myself are fast becoming regulars (despite not living in the area- its worth traveling for).

The "Postmaster" a sweet blend with bold taste up front and lingering chocolate notes. Good coffee but atmosphere and decor could improve to reflect more of the history of this unique place.

Long black today - just OK. Food menu is disappointing - lack of variety and too bread-focused.

A group of us enjoyed coffees and hot chocolates here . Worth a visit. The service is good. The ambience is interesting.

While in Melbourne we again visited the Maling Room Cafe. We chose with our coffee, the organic crumpets, organic food is a part of their new focus. The key to their popularity is the consistency of their coffee and the organic crumpets were excellent, the service was good. Noticed and photographed... Read more

I've come back to this joint a few times. Gonna have to eat my words and say "I would travel for the coffee..and the beans." I rate the place. Haven't tried their long mac. Will get on it next time. Solid soy mocha as well (shameless admission).

Gorgeous space (possibly the prettiest cafe in Melbourne) and equally stunning coffee. Owner Andrew roasts an array of coffees in house and on any given day they've a blend and three singles on for espresso, and one or two other beans for filter. They offer a variety of filter options (pourover... Read more

The coffee I had was easily above what it's rated here. The whole area is quite loud, but the service was quite good. The staff that I spoke to knew enough about the coffee and everyone at my table enjoyed the coffee and the food.

Finally made it to the Maling Room on this visit to Melbourne and it was well worth the train journey from the city. I loved the historic post office setting and quaint streetscape outside. On arrival the staff were attentive and friendly and had me seated with water on table immediately. I... Read more

Got a tip about this place, and boy were we glad. If more of the eastern suburbs were saturated with this kind of superior coffee-and-food combo, there'd be less need to drift closer into the CBD. Roasting in-house is obviously a good first sign, as was the variety of beans on sale (about 6-7...... Read more

Just ok. Had a soy latte that tasted like almond milk. Average really. I expected more from the menu. Very basic. Wait staff could be more presentable, wearing plain clothes so you had no idea who was who. Plenty of potential, needs a shake up.

This cafe doesn't deserve the crowds that flock here on the weekend.

The staff have no idea about coffees nor any sort of customer service.

    Try somewhere else.

Have a good cup of latte (which I think need to be just a tat bit stronger), and tasted El Savador La Fany. I've thought it a bit lack in bodied, but it tasted good with sweet note. WIll definitely visit again, hoping to get the house blend (Symmetry) for home experiment.

After my 4.8 score last time, I decided to give this place a second chance. Coffee was pretty average. Over-cooked shot with poorly cured milk. I've had better home made coffee. And the food? Wow. Never had such a terrible breakfast. The bacon was as thick as the plate I was eating it on. The... Read more

A little surprised to see this place rating below a 6. Judging by today's effort (ristretto based flat white), Maling Room are still at the top of their game. As good as I've had anywhere in months. Staff are friendly and knowledgable.

It's been a while since I popped in here. The coffee here seemed to have lost the plot in the past couple of years. I'm pleased to say that today it was back! I had a latte and it was the best I've had in two years. I could taste the big hits of berry in the blend they use. I'm tipping they use a... Read more

Coffee can be variable, but generally very good. For example yesterday I had 2 coffees. The first was excellent, the second was quite sour. I've had similar experiences in the past - perhaps it depends who is on shot duty. The hot chocolate is lovely. Excellent tasty food. The bagel is a bread roll... Read more
