Merlo. Urgh. A place famous for food but seriously dropping the ball on coffee. Such a shame!

Can be really busy particularly on a Sunday morning for breakfast with a queue up the road. The food is top notch but the coffee can play second fiddle particularly when it's busy.

I hate when people rate something perfectly- its usually meaningless. But I just had perfect coffee, service and breakfast.

Great coffee and amazing food although prices are a bit on the high side for food choice. Atmosphere is great set in an old gun shop (as the name suggets). Opening hours make is very accessible and handy also when The Three Monkeys across the road is full. You just have to pay a bit more.

What is going on with The Gunshop Café these days? Here is a cafe with a huge reputation that has won numerous awards over the years - previous "Best Breakfast Restaurant in Brisbane" is one that comes to mind. Yet based on my most recent visit, I'm wondering if they are starting to rest on... Read more

The food here is excellent; this has been the case since I lived in West End a few years ago, and even frequenting the joint for breakfast before that. That said, the coffee has never been much good which is a bit of a shame. I still go, but I grab my morning espresso elsewhere.

Long wait to get seated but worth it. Great piccolo. Tasty food.

Ok so I'm a coffee reviewer and I'm sorry but the food is going to place a great roll in this review. Enough can't be said Breaky was good enough to put on a dinner menu complex flavours and great balance. I have been to this one a couple times since the coffee was nice, didn't blow me away but was... Read more

Gunshop cafe is a pretty good cafe in an awesome area. The latte I had was bitter and not hot enough for a coffee. The interior of the cafe is really funky, although when I came with a group of friends on a Friday night, it was extremely noisy. Cool place to grab a coffee when wandering the streets... Read more

Well, the coffee is decent but the food is considerably better. This would become my regular haunt if the coffee improved just slightly. Service was great.

The food is among the very best. But this site is about coffee and that is sadly lacking. I go there to eat, to enjoy the great atmosphere, to be cheered by the great wait staffs, then go elsewhere for a coffee.

i have frequented the gunshop for many years, and have always found its food to be delicious. however as 'beesley46' said, they often balls up the milky coffees with inconsistencies in milk temperature. fortunately i now predominantly drink black coffee so this is not an issue. the house's special... Been here several times but first time reviewed. Coffee is consistantly good. They used Merlos regular espresso blend but the have always treated it with respect and pull great shots. Staff have always been friendly but you can feel a little forgotten when its really busy, understandable.

A little pricy for a slightly bitter after taste.

I went here after strong recommendations from a friend. The food was beautiful, had the eggs Benedict, eggs were cooked perfectly, hollandaise was lovely and the double smoked bacon was excellent. However this isn't a site about food, rather about coffee. I have heard good things about this place,... Read more

I have only been to this place a handful of times, but each time I really haven\'t been impressed. They can\'t do anything about the line-up outside, but once you finally get in I have found the staff to be rude and unwelcoming, especially at breakfast time. We waited way too long for coffee every... Read more

I went to 'The Gunshop' cafe only because 'Three Monkeys' across the road was packed. If I was to have my time over, I would have waited patiently in the three monkeys queue.

We were sat down inside by the lady where very loud music made conversation virtually impossible. We asked to... Read more

Great food, wow the food is great. There is a busy, loud hussle bussle insie or a chilled out quite garden part of the cafe, so everyones happy. coffee was sensational. Had a cappa and it was great. Great friendly service with good banter!

    Love, love, love.

I've been going to the Gunshop for five years, on and off. As I live in West End and have a heap of choices, that really tells you something.

Yes, there's a queue on weekends. Yes, they're sometimes busy and distracted by a million people wanted... Read more

Wow. Possibly the weakest coffee I've ever tasted. Our table ordered 2 lattes and a flat white. All were basically glasses of warm milk. The 2 lattes were a slightly browner shade of white! Could have been a dirty glass though because there certainly wasn't any taste.

The Gunshop has a great atmosphere, a nice place to sit and chew on some seriously tasty food...or better yet a yummy coffee. Consistently good coffee, nice staff, and they have beautiful desserts too. Coffee worth travelling for...? I do believe so.

Been to the Gunshop a few times, memories of the coffee, good or bad don\'t come to mind (maybe that says something in itself!?) but the food is great! Go early to avoid the queues!

I went here with a mate for breakfast and I will be going back next time I am in West End. Had a very nice flat white with my omelet with chorizo, house dried tomatoes, spanish onion, basil and goat’s curd. Very friendly staff and a trendy atmosphere. I highly recommend The Gunshop Cafe.

The cheerful and efficient service at breakfast this morning was a lovely surprise, after some bad experiences a few years ago. Breakfast was delicious and the coffee was good. I had a latte which was the perfect temperature and strength for me. The bacon was crispy and poached eggs were creamy and... Read more
