You can\'t go wrong here. Consisent good coffee and it\'s a place on James Street that focuses on the coffee not on any fake atmosphere.
One of the original coffee roasters in Brisbane this spot is one of the valley hot spots for buying coffee beans and even sitting down for a coffee.
While I am still a fan of the ariba ariba blend I think these guys have been over shadowed by some of the newer independant roasters in... Read more
Located in a great area - with several excellent coffee choices - Merlo @ fortitude valley is a very good option. One of their key roasteries, the beans (Merlo of course) are extremely fresh. This place is just about coffee. They even have a little "hatch" windows that you can grab a take-away... Read more
Where is the instant coffee when you need to wash your mouth out? My 90ml double espresso ran a good 12 second extraction making for a worse coffee than I would get from an overpriced jar of instant!
The Idea of the coffee machine around the other way was a mistake for these guys.... Read more
This places focuses on what it's all about - coffee. When you walk in you can see the range of bean blends on offer, which they'll bag or grind straight away for you. In the cafe section the walls are covered in machines and coffee-making/perfecting paraphernalia.
The quality of the coffee... Read more
Dean's done awesome to develop such a great Brisbane roastery but I am so sick of espresso blend after drinking it for so many years
Some great other blends though, I just think they need to switch it up every month or something to keep it interesting.

Usually only grab a free coffee when I pick up beans but was in the neighbourhood so grabbed a coffee. Was quite disappointed with a coffee not up to their usual standards. Watery, over extracted, slightly bitter and bad milk in my cap. You're only as good as your last coffee and I won't be rushing back.
The Long Black pretty damned good but I was spoiled yesterday by One Drop & Fifth Battery. Will try again though!
Great coffee and well made. Staff very friendly and knowledgable. One of the better coffee establishments in Brisbane. Ordinary ambiance. Needs a facelift, although is a factory.
You can always rely on Merlo drive through to help you through your day! this Merlo outlet has the friendliest and most efficient staff, serving up great coffee everyday.
I often drop in for a coffee here ... and it is nearly always worth it. The staff are super friendly and they make a great coffee.
1 Espresso, 1 Cappuccino
Merlo used to be good. Now it seems like they just want to be a big chain and make money. Put your focus back on the coffee Merlo. I didn't enjoy my burnt coffee, or my rude barista.
I go for the free coffee with every beans purchase and they are consistently great. Not a cafe atmosphere as such, but can't fault the coffee...
Merlo Fortitude Valley is a wholesale roasting house open to the public - one of four by Brisbane Roaster Dean Merlo. Merlo is the best coffee coming out of Brisbane at the moment, alongside Brisbane's Dibella coffee (in my opinion :P)
You can order take away coffee here or have a... Read more
good coffee, really great service, lovely staff - makes all the difference!!
1 Skinny Cappuccino
Great tasting beans, but the coffees become quite inconsistent over the past 12 months or so (it used to be great… every single time)
Merlo coffee is magnificent. And even when they are training new staff, the coffee is consistently good. The coffee itself is great, but they also use a really good quality milk and the full range of coffees is great. My personal favourite take-home is Merlo Espresso blend. Been visiting Merlo for... 1 Cappuccino, 1 Long Black
Great quick and easy coffee grab with super friendly staff! Little bit messy out the front with people not using rubbish bins to dispose of their takeaways but other than that perfect drive by caffeine hit!
1 Skinny Flat White
The only ting that annoys me about Merlo - especially this store - is that I can't take it with me everywhere I go on earth. Seriously, Merlo coffee is magnificent. And even when they are training new staff, the coffee is consistently good. The coffee itself is great, but they also use a really... Read more
5 Lattes, 5 Espressos, 5 Skinny Flat Whites
I had to write something after reading the review "thebigguy" wrote.
I have been going to merlo in the valley for two and find the coffee great, nice atmosphere busy shop with a good vibe. I have been to over 30 countries over the world from south america, europe, asia and south pacific and... Read more
Great coffee, excellent service. love my forza blend yuummmo
Great friendly borderline delirious yet hilarious staff. Great coffee always perfect. It\'s great to see a team so excited about what they do and knowledgeable. Really an asset to the Merlo name.
No false pretences here, no fancy furniture or over indulgent display fridges, just a whole bunch of people excited about good coffee. The house blend is great but the \'rivera\' is still my favourite, well worth traveling for! Polite practical service and advice makes merol my favourite cafe in... Read more
