When Russell left to start up his new venture on 'the other side' I had feared that the standards would drop however they have managed to keep up the good quality and service from the good ol' times - they have managed to get baristas who know their work and who are proud of the cup they serve!... Very nice El Salvadorian blend today
Heard about this place way back and have been meaning to check it out. It was alright. It was good coffee. But typically synesso tasting. Coffee in Sydney has a particular taste as well; maybe the water, or maybe the brew parameters.
My espresso had no significant speckling or colour... Read more
In spite of the roaster and all the coffee shop stuff, the coffee is highly variable. Most recent visit I had a superb cup, so maybe will go back.
Reputation took me to The Source.
I thought the food was a little pricey but it was good.
My flat white was good but not noteworthy.
My partner found grinds in the bottom of her cup after finishing her long black.
I waited for a quiet spot to give feedback about... Read more
Echo some of the other reviews that this spot has lost its mojo ....
Cap and a Flat White ordered in. Good, well textured milk. Full bodied, rich coffee which was very good, but a little dusty for me. I'll try it again, but the problem is that I reckon that I would still prefer a takeaway coffee from the Penny Royal up the street.
Good coffee.. Maybe doesn't quite match the confidence of the staff. Ah.. What the heck.. I'll get takeaway
Not sure why this place is getting reviews of 3's and 4's. They are making a huge effort and sourcing some nice coffee's. Plus they are roasting themselves giving them the opportunity to improve and progress more as they learn more about coffee. The long black I had was nice, more on the fruity... Read more
Further update, they really are back. BJ and his crew are on top of their game again. Love a comeback! Always friendly no matter how busy and my standard order (long black mac) always perfect.
Wicked atmos and groovy staff are why I go back. The reputation which led me there in the first place was a little over the top - solid coffee, but nothing to rave about really...
Espresso was really good. Clover was only okay, but I was a bit throaty so maybe it was me. Sandwich not bad. Someone was roasting while they were open which was cool to watch.
The Source features a roaster in the shop and they do their own blend, with a good amount of space leftover. But on every visit having both sit down and takeway coffees I've found the extractions to be quite inconsistent- and often on the bitter/burnt side. Might be due to overroasting their blend... Good coffee, but not happy with the staff.
Had a double espresso after seeing all the praise in magazines and whatnot...was fairly well balanced slightly too acidic however was verging on pleasant acidity...staff were really disinterested despite it being quiet...bought a costa rica filter roast but tasted really woody and grassy...
Loved the atmosphere, and my coffee (cap) was smooth, strong and delicious. The staff are a bit cool but they're efficient. Happy.
The Source is probably one of the best coffee experiences North of the Coat Hanger in Sydney.
These guys are serious about their coffee - specialising in small estate sourced coffees and preparing them as near to perfection as they can possibly attain. A roaster holds pride of place... Read more
Since the change, honestly coffees been better and baristas are better.
They are so efficient and making same quality coffees always how busy or not busy they are, never bring me down.
Only thing missing is that I want to see more from the source. Exactly SAME menus when russell... Read more

Source has really improved on it's quality and consistency recently and their single origins and clover continue to be excellent. I still have some issues with the lucky 7 blend, as it can sometimes turn ash-like. Service and atmosphere is definitely better with the new staff
Not sure what has happened to this place. All the old staff seem to have gone, and with them, the quality of the coffee has also gone. At best, it is very inconsistent. At worst, it is now unfortunately close to undrinkable.
1 Latte
I was very pleasantly surprised by both the service and the coffee at source, the manager was even kind enough to help me out in my quest to buy a triple basket, bringing one down from upstairs. My double ristretto was perhaps a little log, but flavorsome and well balanced. I also enjoyed the... Read more
Great coffee, even better food! Such a good balance of flavours. Generous servings, and friendly wait staff.
I was in Sydney for the wkend and a mate suggested we go here for breakfast - the latte was smooth and the atmosphere was relaxed. Service was fast.
Another cafe on the road... but early morning in the sun is good. Sour cherry toast is yum, but coffee is very up and down. The barista seems to keep changing. Had possibly my last coffee here this week when I think the dish hand?? made it... not sure what is going on.
1 Espresso, 1 Skinny Latte
Love to clover; Ethiopian Nekisse, Panama Geisha. One of the best cafes in Sydney.
